Austin Keystone Academy Member Agreement
Code of Conduct
-
Always Have a Parent/Designated Adult On Site. Adults are welcome to work in designated areas.
-
Obey the Law. Don’t steal. Don't bring illegal drugs to Keystone. Don’t otherwise break the law.
-
Know and Follow the Facility Rules [Posted Below]. This includes keeping all exterior doors locked, and all exterior doors/windows closed unless heating/air conditioning is off. Alcohol is not permitted on site.
-
Obey Classroom Rules: Don't cheat. Don't claim other people's creations as your own.
-
Abide by the Austin Keystone Academy Code of Conduct:
-
Respect Diversity: Not everyone at Keystone is the same. We vary widely by age, race, gender presentation, sexual orientation, body size, ability, style of dress, personality type, beliefs, and many other factors. When interacting with people, respect their uniqueness. Treat everyone at Keystone with kindness and compassion through your words and actions.
-
Commit to Constructive Conversations: Avoid gossip. If you have a complaint, speak to the person who can do something about it. Talk about other people only with their permission.
-
Give People Personal Space: Only touch, hug, or kiss others if they have agreed to the interaction. Sexual and physical harassment, whether in physical, verbal, or through online settings, is not tolerated at Keystone.
-
Follow Safety Guidelines if Posting to Social Media: Any pictures or video created at Keystone should include others in the image only with adult permission. Posts filmed on Keystone grounds and posts mentioning Keystone should avoid commentary on polarizing issues, as that could draw unwanted attention or create safety risks for fellow community members, the campus, the venue, and people associated with the venue.
-
Actively Foster a Safe and Supportive Environment: Harassment, bullying, or any form of annoying, embarrassing or demeaning behavior towards others is strictly prohibited at Keystone. This includes, but is not limited to, verbal, physical, or online harassment. If you feel that any individual is speaking or acting inappropriately, either toward you or to someone else, try addressing it with them if you feel comfortable doing so. If not, or if that doesn't work, you can report the unwelcome behavior to the Interim Code of Conduct Committee (listed below). You can also fill out an Incident Report.
-
Honor Financial Commitments: When you register for a Keystone course, you are making a commitment to pay for the entire school year, regardless of continued attendance. Keystone courses are designed to be year-long, and families are expected to fulfill their financial obligations. Failure to adhere to this policy may result in restrictions on enrolling in future Keystone classes.
-
If a Problem is Reported: The Interim Code of Conduct Committee may then investigate the allegation. These are sensitive matters, so the team may investigate and administer corrective action confidentially. If a committee member was involved in the reported incident, or if they have a conflict of interest (or others will perceive they do) they must recuse themselves. Incident reports do not always mean that someone was in the wrong, or that disciplinary action is warranted. At the discretion of the committee, a student may be allowed (or asked) to unenroll from a particular teacher's class at no penalty to prevent future conflict. Those who are found to have violated the above rules are subject to the decisions of the Interim Code of Conduct Committee. Austin Keystone Academy’s goal is to make sure people are safe and free of harassment.
Incident Reporting Process
Reports can be made in person to any member of the Interim Code of Conduct (CoC) Committee (their names are listed below), or via the web form. This form is confidential and will only be viewed by members of the CoC Committee. Responses will not be shared beyond those individuals without your express permission. If you are uncomfortable making a report to the entire team, please contact any individual committee member with whom you feel comfortable. If a Committee member is not around, please email a member of the CoC Committee listed below and we will arrange a time to meet with you within 1-3 business days.
If a community member or visitor engages in harassing behavior at an Austin Keystone Academy activity or event, the CoC Committee may take any action they deem appropriate, including issuing a warning to the offender or expelling them from the activity (with no refund). If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the CoC Committee immediately.
Interim Code of Conduct Committee
The Interim Code of Conduct Committee is a group of 5 members which is comprised of a mix of teachers and parents from the organization. The committee is in charge of responding to reports of CoC violations and monitoring the Incident Report web form for reports of issues regarding the organization. They are available for one-on-one help with navigating interpersonal situations as well. If a CoC committee member was involved in a reported incident, or if they have a conflict of interest (or others will perceive they do) they must recuse themselves.
