FAMILY EXPERIENCE

Keystone is special among many homeschooling opportunities because parents, guardians, and often siblings remain on campus without having classroom responsibilities like at a co-op. This arrangement allows homeschooling families the opportunity to blend work, socializing, and community involvement in whatever ratio works for them.

Stuck on campus…now what?

Real talk…it’s not uncommon for parents to go through an initial grieving period when they learn that we’re not a drop-off program. You want all of this awesomeness for your kids, but what are you supposed to do with yourself all day? It turns out, the possibilities are numerous, and the awesomeness isn’t just for kids.

First, to state the obvious, when your kids are in class, your time is your own. Any project you can bring with you, you can probably find a space to do it on campus (as long as it doesn’t involve fire. No fire). Reading, work, art, deep thinking...

Second, the more you bring of yourself, the more likely you’ll attract people who want to chat about the same things. Before you know it, you’ll have some new friends, too.

Last but not least, there is no shame in being a “car parent” any day you just want to disconnect and retreat to your car. We’ve all been there, some of us introverts more often than others… Just make sure your kids know where to find you!

Working amenities

Homeschooling, meet co-working! Many parents work on campus while their students attend class.

Wifi is available in our campus buildings, though we recommend having a back-up hotspot for critical activities, just in case…

We offer a full quiet classroom for working purposes during most class periods. Check the Schedule for the latest locations.

Managing multiple kids

Because Keystone offers classes from elementary through high school, we are able to accommodate families who need to educate a breadth of ages simultaneously.

Though we don’t have a preschool program, young siblings often find playmates from other families and roam the playground together.

If one child has class during one period but another doesn’t, don’t fret. Off-periods are a great chance for students to catch up on their own work or to enjoy unstructured time with new friends! This situation is often a true advantage.

The trickiest juggling act is managing kids at Keystone while your other kids need to be Not at Keystone. As long as you can attach your Keystone kid to another adult on campus who is willing to be responsible for them, this can work! Just make sure your student knows where you are and who to contact if they need something.

Volunteering

To offer a high-quality education at an affordable cost, we run Keystone entirely off of volunteer hours aside from tuition to teachers. We don’t require parents to volunteer, but those who do find it rewarding to help build something special with us.
