STUDENT EXPERIENCE

We are so proud to be a place that students look forward to visiting every week. Whatever mental image you have of school, we’re not it.

The Perfect Schedule

J/K - There IS no perfect schedule at Keystone! Across our two class days, we have students take anywhere from one to ten classes, mixing and matching interests and downtime. Some students pick a wide breadth of classes, mimicking traditional school offerings. Others double down on their favorite subject and meet other academic needs elsewhere. We’re not here to tell you what to do; we’re here to let you do you.

The Classroom Experience

If you’ve always been a homeschooler, maybe Keystone will be your first “school” ever, and maybe that’s a little daunting. Well, we’re honored to have you, and we want this to be just as fun as you do! Our classes are typically small with lots of opportunities to interact with your peers and teacher. There are some learning experiences that are just better with other people, and our teachers try to capture those. We take learning seriously, but never ourselves too seriously.

Off Periods

Although many students try to maximize the classes they take on a particular day, don’t be afraid to include an off-period in your schedule if the classes you want are spread out. You can use the time to do homework, meet new friends, or start your own club. Truly, off-periods are often part of the Keystone magic, helping you stay both productive and connected.

Homework?

Maybe? Each class has a personality of its own, which may require more or less work to achieve its educational goals. However, since you have multiple days between class meetings, you have extreme flexibility to fit in any homework when it works for you. Many students find this flexibility to be excellent practice of time management skills that are useful in other places like, say, college. Also, our teachers are used to making accommodations for different types of learners and their different goals. If you want to learn more about homework expectations or possibilities for a specific class, reach out to Keystone or the teacher to find out!

Making Friends

Even though classes are what bring us together, we know the friendships you form here are just as important. Our small class sizes let you get to know your peers and teachers through open discussions and fun activities, our long lunch break and optional off-periods give you unstructured time to hang, and special events just might become a core memory. If you want to summon others with common interests, we encourage you to start a club! No matter what, know that creating a safe environment for you to be yourself is a top priority for us.

Special Events and Activities

We’ve got a talented crew of event planners whose favorite thing is to bring you some of the more entertaining parts of school with a Keystone twist. They've got performances, art shows, and an Oscars-inspired gala on the horizon right now, but they’re always dreaming up new delights.
